The Mostly Occasionally Show and Other Podcasts

Fall 2024 marks 15 years since I started at BroBible, and lately, I’ve been in my head about it. On one hand, I’m insanely proud of what we’ve pulled off—lasting longer than most of our peers and still shaking things up in sports and culture. On the other hand, it feels like I’m just getting started. I turn 39 this week, and there’s this constant, nagging reminder: the clock is ticking.

I guess they call that a 'thought trap.'

But still—time’s always moving. The clock doesn’t stop for anyone.

Lately, I’ve had a lot to say about BroBible—so much so that I’ve been jumping on every podcast that’ll have me, even though my 'ums' and 'uhhs' are enough to make me cringe. Know thyself, and I'll admit it, I’m way better on paper than behind a mic. But hey, life’s about doing things that terrify you, right?

Anyway, I wanted to share some of my recent podcast appearances, plus a little something I’ve been soft-launching over the summer: The Mostly Occasionally Show. It’s where I talk to interesting people about stuff I find, well, interesting—music, sports, media, Internet culture, the usual suspects. And as the name suggests, I release new episodes on a 'mostly occasionally' schedule because life’s busy, and who needs the pressure?

So yeah, I’m doing podcasts now... because everyone needs a hobby, right? It's felt good to have a manageable media project outside the world of monetizing a website.

Here are the first five episodes, each featuring a unique guest—usually thanks to a mix of circumstance and knowing the right people. That's kind of how things start coming together when you're in the middle of your career and have been at the same place for 15 years.

If you're into it, maybe subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon or wherever you listen to your podcasts? And if you’re feeling extra generous, leaving a review would be awesome—it’s like candy for the algorithm’s sweet tooth. I’d be super grateful.

As always, thanks for turning on, tuning in, and dropping out.

The Mostly Occasionally Show

Episodes (So Far):

Episode 1: Del McCoury – A Bluegrass Legend's Journey
I kick off the podcast with Del McCoury, a bluegrass icon whose career has spanned over six decades. We chat about his early days, time with Bill Monroe, and memorable collaborations, and how his first gig with a band was in my hometown of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Del’s still going strong at 85, proving that bluegrass is as timeless as ever.

Episode 2: Jerry Ferrara – 20 Years of 'Entourage'
Celebrating 20 years of Entourage with the one and only Turtle, aka Jerry Ferrara. We dive into wild set stories, Bob Saget cameos, and what the gang would be up to today. Spoiler: Turtle’s probably into crypto now.

Episode 3: Zedd – Secret Raves and Finding His Telos
EDM star Zedd talks about his upcoming album Telos and the search for his life’s purpose. We also get into underground raves, a collab with John Mayer, the NYC rave scene, and going to see Dead and Company at The Sphere in Las Vegas this summer

Episode 4: Jason Fitz – From Juilliard to Sports Analyst
Jason Fitz went from prodigy violinist to sports analyst, with Grammy wins and a thriving career in sports media. He’s living two dreams at once, and we talk about how he made the unlikely pivot from Carnegie Hall to ESPN.

Episode 5: Pat Boone – Reflections on Elvis, Dylan, and Rock's Golden Age
Music legend Pat Boone shares stories about his friendships with Elvis and Bob Dylan, when he stood up against racist advertisers and supported Harry Belafonte during the civil rights movement, and how his career has intersected with cultural moments that shaped modern music.

Please read the show descriptions for more. I don't want to waste anyone's precious time listening to me yap. But also, seriously, thanks for checking it out!

Other Podcasts

In addition to flapping my lips on my own podcast, I've also recorded podcasts with more and more friends.

Here's my appearance on my friend Ryan Perry's Log Off Show, yapping about the BroBible origin story, early Internet experiences building websites on Geocities in middle school, and the online Phish community. You can listen to it on Apple or at the YouTube link below.

I also joined my LA buddy Marshall Nyman on his marketing podcast. I always enjoy catching up with Marshall to compare our perspectives from our different corners of the publishing and affiliate marketing world. Years ago, Marshall struck out on his own and built a marketing agency I really admire. We dive into the nuts and bolts of BroBible's monetization strategy, how I got my start in independent media by working at a travel magazine in New York, and the journey that’s unfolded over the years.

Listen to it on Apple or Spotify.
