Every Concert I Went To In 2024

I love live music. Some people might say I like it too much, but those clowns clearly haven’t had their faces melted by Sturgill Simpson, Phish, and David Gilmour in the same calendar year.

This year, like most years, I attended a ridiculous number of concerts. Look, there’s a reason I live in Los Angeles. It’s not just for work or the weather. LA is one of the best live music cities in the world—effortlessly so. Like New York, there's something happening every night if you're willing to look for it. If Ticketmaster had a loyalty program, I’d have a permanent Garden Box at the Hollywood Bowl by now.

So, here’s my 2024 live music year-in-review.

They say variety is the spice of life, and my concert schedule was basically an overflowing spice rack: one Phish run (kudos to me on the restraint!), bucket-list acts like Blink-182 and David Gilmour, and a surprising amount of normie country like Lainey Wilson and Hardy, mixed with Americana heavyweights like Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson, plus a little EDM for good measure. It all feels like a flex, but I swear—I just appreciate all kinds of music.

Even though I caught shows in Las Vegas, Aspen, Austin, and Nashville this year, I only traveled twice specifically for music (Phish and Dead and Company at The Sphere). Aspen was technically a ski trip that included three Disco Biscuits shows at the Belly up at night—win-win. In previous years, I felt like I traveled more exclusively for live music compared to this year.

Part of this is financial—I’m not chasing anything right now, and I’ve gone kinda meh on music festivals. Too much money, too much planning. I’d rather invest that effort into skiing, fly fishing, and continuing to save for a house (...in Southern California—yikes).

Also, staying local for shows in LA means I can roll straight into my own bed after a concert. See, I love sleeping in my own bed after a show. It's comfy and cozy. That said, I made two trips to Vegas to see two of my all-time favorite bands at The Sphere, and they were worth every penny. The visuals were mind-blowing, thanks to the massive LED screen that envelops the venue. But the sound? Flawless—unlike anything I've ever experienced. Imagine Owsley "Bear" Stanley's Wall of Sound brought to life, courtesy of Madison Square Garden's billionaire owner, James Dolan. With 167,000 speakers (a mix of fixed units and drivers) delivering a high-fidelity concert mix, it's a massive leap forward for live music. It's hard to describe the Sphere experience until you've lived it. Sure, the drinks are painfully overpriced at $22 a pop, but hey, when in Vegas...

I probably missed a few things on this list, so please forgive me ahead of time. And don't ask me to pick a favorite show. It's not happening. My Instagram highlights are all the proof of what I enjoyed.

So... Who should I see next year? Definitely more King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard—that’s a given. Seeing just one show on their incredible North America Tour didn't feel like enough. I’m also eyeing another trip to The Sphere for Dead and Company. I'd also like to include smaller, unique acts on this list next year. There’s so much talent out there, and it’s about time I show it some love.
